Medical Issues We Faced While in Honduras
In Honduras you cannot drink the water. This is a major issue facing the people in the country. The water is not treated, contains no chlorine or flouride, and is ridden with bactertia and parasites.
People in Honduras have special needs that people wouldn't realize. They need clothes, food, and better ways of cooking food. A lot of people in Honduras still cook over an open fire. Their diet consists largely of locally grown fruit and grain. The diet contains more carbohydrates than are needed. The men in the country, due to lack of moderninaztion, work off most of the carbohydrates they consume, but a large percentage of the women are overweight because they work mainly in the home.
While there, we used medicine that we brought and also used medicine that we purchased from pharmaceutical companies in Honduras. We mainly used cold and cough medicine, parasite medicine, vitamins, and we also used antibiotics sparingly.
People in America can help by giving money to creditable organizations, praying for the people and missionaries in the country, and going with charitable groups to help the people.
